Currently, the hottest thing in the flooring market is the completely waterproof luxury vinyl flooring (LVF), especially with technologically advanced cores: WPC (wood plastic composite) and SPC (stone plastic composite.) We’re going to break it all down for you here, but if you have additional questions, feel free to visit our waterproof flooring showroom in Arlington, TX
What is luxury vinyl?
This is a waterproof, durable, affordable, and very stylish resemblance of wood, tile, or stone. Images are taken with 3D photography and a digital printer, so you’ll see knots, grains, swirls, and color/veining variations. It is deeply embossed to give the floors depth, dimension, and textured appearances, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, or distressed. They come in matte, gloss, and high gloss finishes.
A visually exciting design option is that this can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards or square, groutable, tile-sized pieces. Many feel the extra seams add to the realism and, although plank is mainly associated with hardwood looks, some do use it for stone looks.
All LVF patterns follow industry trends, including gray or white-washed floors, textures such as wire-brushing, metallic colors and geometric patterns, and marble or granite floors.
What are waterproof cores?
It is the core's primary job to oversee waterproof floors. The typical luxury vinyl core is a vinyl composite. Still, if you want an even higher water and moisture protection level, there are the WPC (wood plastic composite) and SPC (stone plastic composite) cores that can be built into luxury vinyl. An easy way to remember it is that all WPC and SPC floors are luxury vinyl (LVF), but not all LVF is a WPC or SPC floor.
Neither WPC nor SPC will peel or ripple no matter how long or how much water it’s exposed to. The difference is in the feeling. SPC is firmer than WPC and, while just was waterproof, WPC has a more flexible, resilient feel.
